This month we're shining a light on Solin🩷
For Solin, this year has been a reminder that growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone and how important it is to chose to take the opportunity, even when it feels intimidating. We're proud to celebrate her journey and the incredible progress she's made, both professionally and personally...
"Somewhere along the way this year, I stopped asking myself whether I was ready and just started saying yes.
Becoming a Ladies of Law Ambassador was part of that it gave me the foundation and confidence to keep putting myself forward, to apply for things I might have talked myself out of before, and to feel part of a community that genuinely champions women in law. That matters more than I can explain.
I attended my first Commercial Litigators' Forum event hosted by Hecrbert Smith Freehills Kramer walking into a room full of experienced practitioners as a second-year student was nerve-wracking, but I did it anyway. Then I volunteered at their Pro Bono Reception at the Royal Courts of Justice, and got to network there too. Both experiences pushed me to show up differently and I've learned that confidence isn't something you wait to feel, you build it by doing things even when you're scared.
The rest of the year carried that same energy. I completed the IEUK Commercial Law virtual internship, was accepted onto the Government Legal Profession Diversity Scheme, and secured a legal placement at Clasado Biosciences. I also continued pro bono work with APPEAL (Centre for Criminal Appeals), supporting individuals challenging wrongful convictions work that quietly reminds me why I chose law in the first place.
Outside of law, I was appointed Head of Marketing at the Young Professionals Society selected from over 200 applicants across 66 universities, which honestly still doesn't feel real. And I was recognised with the University of Law Students' Union Excellence Volunteer Award. That one especially meant something to me, because it wasn't about grades or applications it was recognition for showing up, giving my time, and caring. It proved to me that hard work doesn't go unnoticed, even when it feels like it might.
What people don't always see is how hard it is to do all of this alongside a full law degree. Being a second-year student and staying this involved outside of studies is not easy. There were moments of exhaustion and self-doubt. But it taught me discipline, and it taught me to never give up on myself and I'm genuinely proud of who I'm becoming.
Your hard work is always working, even when you can't see it yet. Back yourself, show up, and don't stop because the doors will open."
Congratulations Solin, you're absolutely smashing it! 👏🏼🤩
